It wouldn't be the weekend...

...without a picture of a bee and a flower, or two

There are several different species of bee and other insects that visit these flowers.  Here's a hoverfly.  I love the sharp stripes on this one.

1 July

So, we arrive on the last day of the first project.  I wanted to share some more statues from the Coliseum, the carriers of the great globe at the top of the building.  I like the way they peep over the top whilst carrying the world on their backs.
However, I caught this picture as I came out of the bead shop and I think it wins for today.
I couldn't quite believe the size of the branch that this wee terrier was carrying, but he seemed quite happy, trotting along with his "stick".  Not sure I would have wanted to try throwing it for him.  But it was also a very timely sight, and the word that came to mind was "tenacious."
So, that's it for my first project.  Where do I go from here?  Excellent question...watch this space...

30 June

This is my favourite picture from today.  The statue is on the Arts and Commerce Building behind The Strand.  I continue to be amazed by what I find wandering around London, stepping off the busy streets to look behind and up.

I also wanted to include a picture of this building, whose statues I glimpsed through the trees whilst having lunch in Embankment Gardens.  Again, who knew?!

29 June

Another visit to St James's Park today and the flowers, waterfowl and other wildlife were on fine form! What did I learn today?
That a squirrel's favourite chocolate is Cadbury's Whole Nut...

Other things I learned at the park today...

If you get lost, ask a pigeon...

Ducks' beaks come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and colours...

Ducks' feathers are also pretty amazing...

There are several species of geese in residence at St James's Park...

I have a particular fondness for diving ducks (although they move so fast it's difficult to get a good picture of them)...

And pigeons...such posers...

Finally, an update on the baby coot chicks - they're growing up so fast...

28 June

This magnificent beast lives on the back of the Edith Cavell statue.  I like the contrast of the green moss and I am also in need of some fortitude right now!

27 June

It was tempting not to go out this lunchtime as I had plenty to be getting on with and Central London was on the toasty side.  But rules is rules so I took a quick stroll around the cooling fountains of Trafalgar Square.

The water looked interesting against the backdrop of grey clouds so I took several close-ups of the top of the fountains...I quite like the effect.
